Q: iPad playing up after being repaired

I brought an iPad Mini secondhand today, and the seller informed me that he had the screen replaced as the original was cracked. There are also obvious signs of a drop incident as there are very small dents in two corners on the top of the iPad. I took a look at the screen, and it appeared to be 'lifting' ever so slightly from the bezel down the bottom (purely cosmetic). After seeing this, I took my iPad down to a local phone repair shop and they used adhesive to correct the lifting of the screen. I got the iPad home, and it started playing up (home button not working, Siri launching unexpectedly, multitasking not coming up when double tap the home button ect). I did a factory reset and the same thing kept happening. I also tried disabling Siri in settings and using assistive touch instead of the home button. When I placed the iPad down on my desk, the screen also turned on randomly. I then left the iPad for a while and when I picked it back up again, it appeared to be working as expected (except for the home button). I will try reinstalling the software through iTunes and see if that helps; because I'm thinking that there could have been a glitch in the software which has been causing the iPad do this. What are your thoughts?

iPad Mini, iOS 9.3.2

    Hi

I suggest that you try to return the iPad for a refund, unless it was described to you as being faulty (as opposed to having only cosmetic damage) when you bought it.

However, as you have since had work carried out on the iPad by a third-party, the seller may seek to claim that the fault was caused by that.

I spoke to the seller today who informed me that I (meaning myself) checked the iPad and found no fault with it and that he wasn't prepared to give me a refund as I took it to the shop to get it repaired due to 'cosmetic issues'. However, he failed to mention to me that the iPad had been dropped previously, hence why the screen was lifting up at the bottom. He said the screen was replaced; however, I feel like the repair wasn't undertaken effectively.

Ultimately, he needs to refund me as I feel I have been ripped off.

Did you test the iPad before you took it to the repair place? If so, did it work properly? If you can't prove that it was not working properly before you had work done on it, then you are SOL. The seller can claim that the damage was done by the repair shop you took it to. It is quite possible that the adhesive, if improperly applied near the home button, did indeed cause this damage. The seller was honest it telling you that the screen had been replaced, the most common reason for which is the iPad having been dropped and the screen thus cracked.
