Q: "no such file or directory" error message

no such file or directory error after using clamxav

I am experiencing a loss of ability to open web links from searches I make. Some will open, most will not.

A few days ago the apple logo opened a page and said a virus had been detected. Afterwards, Mackeeper was very persistently trying to have me download software, which I did not. I did however download Clamxav and ran several scans, one of which isolated an infected file. I deleted that file using Clamxav. That is when I began to experience problems. Since I am new to Macbook pro, I do not have a backup or know how to fix the problem. When I search and try to open a resource, I receive an error message - "no such file or directory" -

I believe I must have deleted the file or directory needed when I deleted the infected file Clamxav found. Is there a way to repair the corruption I am experiencing? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running El Capitan. I appreciate any help in order to get my MBP running agan! I am a student and have a lot of work on my laptop I would hate to lose. Plus, I am unable to do my current workload from school.

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Dixie

Contact support@clamxav.com with this explanation along with details on what the infection name and infected file name you found. It will be listed in your Scan Log or it may still appear in the ClamXav window if you have not run scan since then. They may request that you run a diagnostic routine to get additional information about what you may have done.

Once you know what was deleted, if it turns out to be something you needed then you will need to restore that file from backup. If it turns out to be part of the OS or an Apple application and you don't have backup, then you will need to re-install OS X 10.11.6 from the Recovery HD and we can walk you through that.
