Q: Bad Customer Service Experience

I recently had a very bad experience with the Apple Customer Service.

Apple shouldn't shrug off ultimate responsibility of their products to the resellers.

I purchased a macbook from a IT Fair where I came to know LATER that they were selling an old model in the name of discount. The macbook had camera not working i.e. dead on arrival. It was fully packed when I bought it and hence wasn't suspecting any foul play.

Apple simply said they cant do anything and I need to only liaise with the reseller to get 1 for 1 replacement. Reseller simply denied saying that it was a old model so they don't have stock. Apple said you fight your own battle, max apple can do is to repair the camera.

I wasn't ready for that as my device was less than 24 hours old and if starts needing repair from Day 1 not sure what will happen to it later. So I went back and got the refund.

Overall it was a nightmare for me to manage the situation with the reseller and apple simply shrugged off the responsibility. Anyway I am a loyal apple customer (already own iphone and macbook pro) and still have faith in Apple and hence went ahead an purchased latest model from another reseller. The customer service guy later called and said they will send some discount coupon. The coupons never arrived.

I didnt bother to check again with the customer service as I am totally exhausted with the disappointing interesting and lost the faith that anyone would do anything for me.

You likely paid a price that was "too good to be true." - especially considering you thought you were purchasing a new machine.

Let's say you meet somebody on the street who claims to be selling you a new car (say a Toyota) at, say $10,000 less than its usual selling price.  You buy it and are delighted to get a brand new car for a bargain price.  You start the car and drive it half a mile, when the car fails.  You later learn the battery is dead, the radiator had been demolished in a previous accident, and the brakes are worn out.

Would you expect Toyota, Inc. to offer you any assistance at all?  You should not!!  The whole scenario is entirely between you and the seller.

Consider it an expensive lesson learned.

I bought it from Apple Authorised reseller. The example you have quoted doesn't hold true in my case.

Sorry didn't include this information and you had to type all that!

Just a tip, say things that people won`t get from the context.
