Q: Does any one know if the Airport Extreme dual band router has the same SSID for the 2.4 gHz and 5.0 gHz bands or are their SSID's different.  I am having connectivity problems with a security camera and need to know if the bands share a SSID.

You may assign any two different SSIDs when configuring in Airport Utility.

By default, both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands share the same wireless network name, or SSID.

Users do have the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band if they wish in AirPort Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options.

I doubt bands have anything to do with the problem.

Names however can.. Make sure you use short name, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. eg TCwifi (that will be both bands of the same name) or TC24ghz and TC5ghz for the different bands.. same rules though.. pure alphanumerics..

Password also same rules but longer. 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no special characters.

They are different SSID's, by default when you activate the 5GHz network the SSID will take the original 2.4GHz SSID and add 5GHz to the end of it, for example: 'Home Network' and 'Home Network 5GHz'

You don't do anything to "activate" the 5 GHz network, it is always active by default as long as the router wireless is turned on.

By default, both bands use the same wireless network name, although it is possible to assign a different name to the 5 GHz network.
