Q: No start-up chimes
My new iMac does not have startup chimes....is it broken already?
I've always been told that the chimes indicate a working Mac.
Using 10.11.4
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), 27", i7, 8 GB Ram..

This was an issue for me as well. I fixed it by going into Sound in System Preferences. Output was correctly set to Internal Speakers but the Sound Effects tab did not have Internal Speakers chosen in the drop down called... Play sound effects through. I changed it to Internal Speakers and rebooted and presto I heard the startup chime.
