Aug 17, 2016 8:03 PM in response to MTG-MANby Shock Doc,Thanks this worked for me also did a PRAM reset first then immediately shut down using power button then did.
"reset the System Management Controller:
Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer."
Have been playing about with all my software and older peripherals to get them working on ElCapitan and the new macOSSierra Beta and as the library is on a connected drive software the OS may have thought I was up to no good.
I have had this happen before on older setups for the same reason I assume but had forgotten the fix.
Thanks MTG-Man
