Q: Can a TC b/u to a TC?

Configuration Contemplated:

 

TC1 (in TM mode) tethered to a TC2 (in ext. drive mode and extending WIFI).

 

Question:

 

If I add a 2nd 2TB Time Capsule (via ethernet) to extend my WIFI signal, could I use that 2nd TC as an external drive and back it up with Time Machine to the 1st 2TB Time Capsule?

Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac, iOS 9.3.5

    Yes and No.

     

    Yes, if you are asking about backing up using a 3rd party application like Carbon Copy Cloner or ChronoSync

    No, if you are asking about backing up using Time Machine.

    Actually I had both in mind, so you are gratefully narrowing my quest.  So, I submitted a question to CCC about how to "see" the storage of a TC not being used as a TM.  I tried an experiment:  I plugged in a thumb drive to the TC, but couldn't see it for b/u.  I suspect that was because the TC was also my TM.  I don't have a second TC yet, but if this plan works I will soon.  Thank you.
