    1. Because there are items in the Library folder, and may be items in .Trash or other invisible folders.

    2. Aside from emptying the Trash, you should leave it as is; if desired, the folders can be made visible.

Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the Script Editor, and run the following:

    tell application "Finder" to quit

    try

if (do shell script "defaults read com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles") is not "1" then error

do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0"

    on error

do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"

    end try

    delay 2

    tell application "Finder" to run

When done, run the script again.

You probably don't want to try to delete 'random hidden files'. The OS has a lot of critical files that are hidden, removing some of them will cause issues or can lead to the Mac not booting.

Check the Mac section of this user tip for ideas to clean up files on the disk…

You may also consider troubleshooting by posting an Etrecheck report…

    http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

Too many files may not cause slowness or performance issues - that is often caused by software or possibly hardware issues. Etrecheck will show the software on the Mac.

It may also help if you gave more detail on your issues, focusing on one point may not get you good results.
