I didn't see any mention of that capability at today's event. Does anyone out there know?

Apple Pencil is not described in the updated Apple Online Store as being compatible with either iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus (see under Compatibility):

At this point the Apple Pencil should only function with the iPad Pro.

An announcement would have been made. Personally I don't see any use of the pencil with an iphone.
