how do I add my new ipod shuffle to my account?

You don't need to add an iPod shuffle to any "account."  You just run iTunes on your computer and connect shuffle.  It should appear in iTunes.  This screenshot (of my iTunes window upper left corner) shows iPod's device button circled in red (icon on button differs).

Click that device button, to show shuffle's settings screen in iTunes.  Use this screen to set up how iTunes syncs songs (and other media) to your shuffle, and associate the shuffle to your iTunes library.  Please post back with any specific questions you may have.
