Q: I carelessly move  my document file on my macBook air to the trash. I would now like to reset my flash drive to a previous dat to recover them. Is that possible? Is there a better way.

I carelessly trashed my document file. How can I recover those documents? I think it contained ALL my documents. Can I reset the flash drive to  a previous date? How else can I recover them? I tried to recover them one by one but there are just to many and I not sure which ones were trashed when I made the mistake so that would take a lot of time.

Select the item(s) in the Trash you wish to retrieve, and select "Put Back" from the File menu.

I'VE tried using this method bit it didn't work to well.  As I put ALL of the documents from myMac into the trash that's a long process.  Also some of the folders had files within them and were separated  from their folder.  I pulled out the folders and most were empty. Pictures did the same thing -got separated from their folder. Also some of the files and items in the trash, I think, are connected to other programs that are not identified.

I know on most PC you can reset your hard drive( flash drive in the mac) to open to a previous date. I'm not sure if the Mac can do that.

Thanks for your help.    Noel Sisson

The equivalent feature to restore a Mac's internal storage to a time or date in the past is Time Machine: Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support.

You would have had to enable it beforehand though.
