Q: Apple Pages

I created a template in Apple Pages 5.6.2 for a client and they can't open it on their Mac Apple Pages. It gives this warning: The required index.xml file is missing. What do I need to do in order for them to open the template and use it?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Make sure their Mac is running at the minimum OS X 10.10.4 or later.

Your Pages v5.6.2 documents are entirely incompatible with Pages '08, and Pages '09. That is what generated the index.xml file is missing dialog for your client. Pages v5 documents are an entirely different document architecture, and do not use the index.xml file internally.

Either export your Pages v5.6.2 document as Pages '09, or as a Word docx document. Or ask your client if they have Pages v5.5.3 or later installed, and to right-click on your Pages v5.6.2 document, and open with default Pages v5.n.n.

    Just simplifying what Viking said.

Pages 5 is the newer version and Pages '09 can't open its documents.

As Viking says you need to:

    Menu > File > Export > Pages '09

so Pages '09 can read them, but the export is not perfect because Pages 5 is not a match for Pages '09.
