Q: I have two aliases in my iCloud mail that I can't delete. The instructions they provide don't work or I am missing something.

I have two incorrect aliases in my iCloud mail and I can't delete them. The instructions provided don't seem to do anything or I am missing something. Anyone have a clue?

    Polaris,

Here are two Support Articles describing iCloud email aliases:

    1. iCloud: Create or change email aliases

    2. Mail (El Capitan): Use email aliases

    What instructions are you following?

I was using #1, but when you follow those instructions, it doesn't provide any option to select and delete the alias. I'm running El Capitan on my machine. Maybe I should use that instruction?

    Polaris,

    • In iCloud Mail, click the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar, then choose Preferences.
    • Click Accounts.
    • Select the alias in the Addresses list, then do any of the following:Click Done.
      • To choose a new color for incoming messages, click a Label Color option. Alias labels appear only in the iCloud Mail app on iCloud.com.
      • To change the name or label, enter a new alias name and label in the fields provided. Alias names must contain between 3 and 20 characters.
      • To turn off an alias, select “Disable alias.”When an alias is turned off, all email messages addressed to that alias are returned to the sender.
      • To turn on an alias, deselect “Disable alias.”
      • To delete an alias, click Delete.

So, what do you see when selecting "Click Accounts?"

If I do that and click on an alias, I see a "Delete" option at the bottom of the window

I tried the instructions for #2 El Capitan. After I choose Edit Aliases under Account Information it takes me to my iCloud account where it shows my Full Name and the aliases, but there is no remove button to delete the aliases and they are inert. There is no way to select them.

There is no Delete option when I do that and there is no way to select the aliases. The only thing I can change on that page is my Full Name. Everything else is inert.

    How many aliases are listed?

    Are they @me.com, @icloud.com, or @mac.com?

Are they listed on the right side of the window when iCloud/IMAP is selected? If so, I can't delete any under that heading either.

    Can you add any aliases?

    1. In iCloud Mail, click the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar, then choose Preferences.
    2. Click Accounts.
    3. Click “Add an alias.”
    4. Provide the requested information:
      • Alias: The text you provide becomes the email address (alias@icloud.com). An alias must contain between 3 and 20 characters.
      • Full Name: The name you provide appears in the From field of the recipient’s email.
      • Label: iCloud Mail uses the label to categorize messages sent to your account.
      • Label Color: Messages appear in your Inbox with the colored label that you specify.
    5. Click OK, then click Done.

One is me.com and one iCloud.com  And Yes I can add aliases - no problem  This is what I've got. Please delete the image, if you can, after you have looked at it.

    Polaris,

    I will request image deletion.

Both of those addresses are technically your iCloud email addresses and cannot be removed.

You only have the capability to add an alias.
