Q: AMD FirePro 800

Hello all.   I am looking to upgrade one of the video cards in my late 2012 Mac Pro.

It's a 3.4ghz Quad Core, and I'll be upgrading the RAM to 32gigs.  It's already got a pair of fast Solid State Drives.

I'm looking at the AMD FirePro 8000... I see the AMD version and then a Sapphire version listed on B&H Photo.

They appear to be the identical same card.  Same MFR#, all the same specs.  same photos.

The Sapphire lists at $1,375, the AMD is $975.  It's the same card, Isn't it?

It seems to me they are the same as well, though not sure they work on your Mac Pro.

I could only find one link of using a FirePro 8000 in a Mac Pro

agree 100%. I think Japtor even linked earlier something which showed FirePro 8000 drivers were in 10.9 too at least. There will be at least two GPU options and prob three; 9000, 8000 and 7000. The CPU options will probably range from the 12 core shown down to 10 and 8 cores. I know some people think there won't be a delete option for one of the GPU's, and that may end up being true, but I think I'd rather have one 9000 or 8000 than two 7000's to be honest. In the end considering the GPU's are more than likely there to stay for the life of the machine, due to a lack of upgrade options, it still might not be a bad thing to have two cards for resale. I would think even if you could BTO a single GPU model it would take a disproportionate hit in resale for being a proverbial redheaded stepchild with only one GPU.

One concerns seems to be to provide adequate power to the card.
