Q: Combine iPhone Music With iCloud
My brother-in-law has a music in two places. He has music on his iPhone that is not sync'd with the iCloud. He also has music he uploaded to iCloud not stored on his iPhone. Now he wants to Merge the music on the iPhone with the music he has in the iCloud. He is obviously concerned about losing anything in the process. Since I use Apple Music and have my entire library in the cloud I'm looking for confirmation/suggestions about the easiest/safest way to make this happen.
I was going to copy his music off of his iPhone to a folder(for backup purposes). Then import/copy that music to his iTunes Library. Once I had the music in iTunes, I'd update his iTunes Library with iCloud. Follow up with deleting the songs off his iPhone. Finally, turn on his iPhone to sync with iCloud.
Just wondering if my method will work or is there a simpler/safer process. I know there is a "Merge" capability on the iPhone but I personally haven't used it.
Appreciate any suggestions/feedback from the community.

I was going to suggest something similar -- Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB - Apple Support
Get your music collection on all of your devices - Apple Support
