A 2 month old 'refurbished' iPod Touch 5th gen just recently started to lose all its battery charge overnight.  Is this indicative of a battery issue?

Maybe. Where did you purchase this device?

It's possible the battery is at fault but not knowing what the device is doing at night it's not conclusive.

I normally close all apps by double clicking the home button and swiping all apps off then make it go to sleep with the sleep button.  It only started doing this recently.

For curiosity sake, Does Apple put in a brand new battery for refurbished units?

That is completely unnecessary. It doesn't make your battery last longer.

    Yes.

Try downloading the app Battery Life and see what it says about your battery.

Take it to an Apple store and they can test the battery. Or get the app "Battery Life", which seems to be a reasonably accurate battery tester also.

It can also be an app that is misbehaving. Go to Settings/Battery and see which app is the heaviest user of energy.

The absolutely best thing you can do for your Touch is to charge it overnight, every night, and enable automatic iCloud backups. That way you will have a fully charged device to start your day, and you will not be concerned about battery drain overnight.

The iPod seems to lose its Setting/Battery info when this happens.  I will definitely try out the "Battery Life" app.  Thanks.

Just ran the 'Battery Life' app and it shows 'perfect' wear level.  Thanks.

If the battery is good (which I suspected), you've got an app that is updating in background when the phone is asleep. You've got to be a detective to find it. Note that killing apps from the Recently Used screen will not stop apps that have background processes if they receive Notifications.

I will looking through the apps and turning off the 'notification' if possible.  Thanks for your help.

Also look into background app refresh and background app update, those can kill battery life

And if your e-mail is on push, set it to fetch. Push means your device is reaching out to see if you have new mail at regular intervals...which can really affect battery life

I have a 6th gen touch and even with that one I charge it every night.

So I have removed (from Settings/General/Storage & iCloud Usage/Manage Storage) all apps except 'Battery Life' that did not originally come with this iPod and the battery is at 4% this morning even with a full 100% charge.  This is only 8 hours later.  Anything else that may be eating up battery life?  Will making Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/Fetch New Data to all manual help?  I believe this battery drain issues started right around when I updated iOS 9.3.5, which was about ten days ago.

I have removed all apps, with the exception of 'Battery Life' and the battery is at 4% this morning after 8 hours off the charger.  I will set all iCloud and email to Fetch or Manual and see if that helps.  Thanks.

Restore iOS on it. Don't install anything and test it. Battery should be OK. If it is, restore your backup. It should still be OK.
