Sep 13, 2016 11:08 AM in response to DarioT.by ShagCA,What commercial? Perhaps 1st gen iPad Mini hardware isn't good enough to run iOS 10. If they allow 1st gen Mini to run iOS 10, you'd still be angry because it becomes sluggish and apps keep crashing.

Sep 13, 2016 11:07 AM in response to DarioT.by celliott147,There are hardware requirements that the iPad Mini does not meet. Support has to be discontinued at some point as Apple cannot support all devices forever while moving technology forward. Support now only includes iPad Mini 2 and later, iPad (4th Gen) and later, iPod Touch (6th gen), and iPhone 5 and later.

Sep 13, 2016 11:08 AM in response to DarioT.by Skydiver119,the mini is on the same list as the iPad 2 and 3 and iPhone 4 and earlier and touch 5, they all lack the hardware to run the iOS.
The alternative would be to let your update your mini 1 and then be unhappy with a sluggish or even non-performance

Sep 18, 2016 8:24 AM in response to Skydiver119by Funkkydrummer,Now that Apple have moved onto iOS 10 and the iPad Mini is stuck back on iOS 9, does this mean that iPad Mini won't receive security updates etc on iOS 9? Will it be safe to continue using the iPad mini for mobile banking etc?
