Q: OS failed, no drivers so iPhone not recognised

The os 10 problem affected my iPhone 6S Plus.  Whilst following the restore instructions the download kept crashing and error 1671 occurred.  I turned off my anti virus which seems to cause error 1671.

The 9.3.5 download that was taking place failed yet again and despite having reached over 1 GB failed back to 0. The system then went to 'contacting the server' for around 10 minutes but did not connect. I was then advised there was a new iTunes download which I needed before I would be able to restore.

Downloaded the new iTunes which involved re-booting my PC.  Now my iPhone is not recognised.

I have gone to devices in settings, checked properties and there is no driver - I ran troubleshooting, no driver can be found.  I presume this means there is now no OS on my phone.

I have tried re-booting the phone, turning it off and then as I press the home button attaching the cable.  Still not recognised.  I have changed cable, changed usb port etc. the system beeps when I attach but my phone is not recognised.

I am now at my wits end, without my phone, have spent hours on this and got nowhere so any advice gratefully received.

If anyone knows how to get a driver to my phone so I can restore it . . . . . .

Make sure iTunes is up to date.

It is, it was updating iTunes that began the problem.  Its taken me a while, my iPhone seemed to die completely.  But connected it to my laptop (which it hasn't been connected to before) and that recognised it in iTunes and began the restore, although that has failed once and I've started it again and am a bit fed up as I've been doing this now since around 1830.

I then connected my iPod touch to my PC with the latest iTunes and that too was seemingly not recognised.  Ended up going into devices manager, finding portable devices and manually adding the drivers by browsing to their location.  Pity I didn't know that while the phone was connected as the download had almost completed on there.
