Q: Help! FCPX relinked to wrong file, won't let me relink to correct one

I'm about to pull my hair out.  Please if anyone has a solve here.

I moved some media from one drive to another because of space, knowing I would just relink them (the media was not stored in the library).

When I relinked the files in the project, FCPX sometimes linked to the wrong file because it's the same filename (C006.mp4 in "DAY 7" folder instead of C006.mp4 in "DAY 10 folder).  These are clips with different durations, but somehow FCPX relinked them.

So now when I try to remedy the situation and relink again to the correct C006.mp4 in the DAY 10 folder FCPX says it can't because the media is a different durations, etc.

So I'm stuck... with a LOT of clips that this has happened to.  FCPX seems to have mislinked to media of different duration, and now won't let me link to the correct media with the correct duration.

Please help. Please.

More on the issue I've found.  Hopefully this can help... hopefully you can follow this:

    Currently

Clip PLANE (C0078) is correctly linked to PLANE (C0078)

Clip BOAT (C0078) in wrongly linked to PLANE (C0078)

If I try to relink Clip Boat to it's correct media BOAT (C0078) it gives me an error because that clip is not long enough to cover Clip PLANE!

I don't care about relinking Clip Plane, it's working, but because they are now both referencing the same media, those clips are related somehow.

    To rephrase:

Clips PLANE and BOAT are currently referencing the same media.  I want to change what BOAT is linked to, while keeping PLANE untouched and correctly linked.  But I can't, because FCPX wants my new BOAT relink to apply to the PLANE link as well.  How can I get FCPX to not think like that?

I actually found a situation from the above where I could relink (despite the clips being 8 seconds different in duration).  Don't know why it let me, but it did.  And it's behaving like they are linked because they share media.

So I relink CLIP BOAT to boat, and CLIP PLANE changes to a boat.

I then go and relink CLIP PLANE to plane and CLIP BOAT change to a plane.

How can I get these clips to act independently?
