Q: New ipod nano 7th skipping certain songs.

I just bought a new nano 7th gen to replace my 4th gen because battery was aging and past 4-5 months or so certain songs have been skipping.  When I try to go back it won't go back any further than the skipped song and then the titles get mixed up with what's actually playing until i go back and forth.  Now it's doing the same thing on the new one.  They play just fine on itunes.  This is ******* me off, i'm low budget and dont have money to waste on stuff that doesn't work.

iPod nano, iOS 9.3.5

If you have not already, do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  If those certain songs play fine in iTunes, the most likely cause is data corruption on the iPod.  The Restore erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes.

Resetting did nothing.  As mentioned the same songs did it on old ipod.  And now new one.  They worked originally so why would they just stop? And they still play perfectly fine on itunes.  Apple needs better customer service for how much money they make.

My suggestion is to do a Restore, not just Reset (restart) the iPod.  If you did a Restore already, the cause is probably those song files being corrupted, since they also had this problem on a different older iPod (which was not clear to me when I read your post).

Song files (like all computer data) can become corrupted on the computer.  The problem may not be severe enough to affect playback on your computer using iTunes.  But an iPod is a simple media player and not as tolerant, compared to a powerful computer.  You should replace the song files from a backup (before the corruption occurred) or the original source.  If they are songs purchased from iTunes Store, you can remove those songs from your iTunes library and download them again at no cost

Download your past purchases - Apple Support

If they were imported from music CD, import them again.  Otherwise, replace from original source.  (Try it with one of these songs, to see if problem gets resolved.)

You may want to do a general check of your computer's drive, in case data corruption is not confined to just some song files (because the drive is becoming unreliable).  If it's a Mac, run Disk Utility and use First Aid.  When you do this, select the drive volume in Disk Utility's sidebar, not the drive device.  The drive volume is indented below the device in sidebar.  If your computer is a Windows PC, do the equivalent check in Windows.

yeah bad choice of words.  It was a restore I did and yet nothing.  What bitrate should I use?  Only thing left is to find and delete 1 by 1.  Which will take forever.

Apple's current "standard" bitrate for encoding is AAC format at 256 kbps.  That's what the iTunes Store uses for song files it sells.  It's called iTunes Plus in iTunes preferences for Import Settings.

I would try just one or just a few of the affected song files, to confirm the problem is resolved for those songs.
