Q: Newly upgraded to 12.5.1.21, majority of artist thumbnails missing

Windows 8.1, just upgraded to iTunes 12.5.1.21 in order to then get iOS 10.

After starting iTunes back up all of the artist photo thumbnails have been replaced by a generic microphone icon. The few artists that do have a photo in place are ones where I've purchased a track from Apple as pointed out here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/30633591

Not sure whether to think this is a bug or a really unsightly design decision.

To elaborate, previously most artists excepting the ones with purchases as I described seemed to have a thumbnail consisting of a randomly selected piece of album art.  All my album art is intact though.

Same here, and the purchased artist icons are not album art, but some photo of iTunes' choosing.

This is an unwelcome and arrogant change.

Surely.  They can't be serious with this new version.  I have the same problem.

Looks like they have replaced the Icon with the Artist similar to the iPhone when Artist is selected in the sidebar however, only purchased music is downloading the Artist Icon.

It's to force us to go onto Apple Music.  Disgusting.  I legally purchased all my music.

    Hello everyone,

After I updated my iTunes to 12.5.1.21, I cannot see my genre thumbnails in iTunes. Previously, there were nice little icons next to each genre to help navigate as well as general info about how many albums and songs belong to each genre. Now though, I'm left with genres' name only. Please see the image below:

I've tried going to different viewing options, but none of them seem to help.

Does anyone else have the same issue as me? Please help.

    Thank you.

    Eugene

We're in the same boat on the Mac side. I'm starting to have disdain for Apple.

    iTunes 12.5 – What’s annoying?

    ALBUM ARTWORK

    Automatic resizing? Why?

This occurs across most views, Recently added, artist and genres views.

    HEART & STARS

You can disable the stars, however the hearts remain throughout the application, where the disable button?

    PLAY BUTTON

Why? I do not need an oversized button all over the artwork either in the middle or to the bottom left, depending on the view.

    SHUFFLE

The option to shuffle is everywhere! Again, why? option to disable.

    TEXT SIZE

Why add something if it does not work! If this is an oversight, then add album artwork resizing!

    NO ARTIST PREVIEW

Never understood on previous versions why the application added there own, however now I do not have any, why?

In conclusion, why force another unwanted, untested upgrade upon us. Without the option to downgrade back to what we were all happy with.

with this be read and digested by Apple? Lets hope so, however, probably not!

Not sure what you mean ... yes, 12.5.1 has a few irritating cosmetic changes but nothing is "forcing" you to use Apple Music.  I have no interest in the latter (or any other streaming service), but 12.5.1 still allows me to organize my music library, play music from it, and sync content to iDevices.

CAN'T APPLE STOP F-ING AROUND WITH WHAT THEY THINK IS COOL?  I didn't ask for this crap.  Stop updating every five minutes and leave everything alone.  I think apple is becoming the Orwellian "Big Brother" in the computer world. i.e., no headphone jack in iPhone 7? instead you can (almost forcibly) buy the $159 wireless buds.  Good luck finding one when you're on your run/bike ride, sweating, and one slips from your ears!!!

I know people like to rant and rave but I honestly think this was an oversight.  They are trying to merge commonality with the iPhone and I think they only tested downloaded music and not ripped music.   The developers probably don't rip music on their development machines.  They need to be more thorough in their testing but I am sure they will fix this if we just take the time to submit Feedback.  Use the feedback assistant if you are Beta Tester if not:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/
