Mac App Storefrom the page I linked
Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion and later support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet. These computers will start up to an Internet-based version of AHT if the hard drive does not contain AHT. An Internet-enabled connection via Ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Internet-based AHT functions the same as AHT on the hard drive or flash storage outlined above.

Sep 14, 2016 4:47 AM in response to charles of the northby CT,If possible, run EtreCheck and post the results here. Consider the possibility that your hard disk is failing. I would back up files and then take it in for testing.

Mac App StoreLike CT, if your Mac was running normally yesterday and you didn't install anything before you shutdown, I suspect your HD may be failing as well. You can also try running First Aid from Disk Utility.
-
Sep 14, 2016 5:08 AM in response to dialabrainby charles of the north,First aid says there is no problems on the hard drive or the macintosh HD, something i forgot to mention is that around a month ago I performed a re-install of OSX and everything seemed fine

Mac App StoreI would run EtreCheck as CT mentioned if possible and post the results here. It's certainly not normal for a Mac to be fine one day and run extremely slowly unless some incompatible software was installed or some part of the hardware is failing.
