Q: tvOS 10 OTA Update Failed on Apple TV 4 - Lights Blinking Now

I was in the middle of watching a show last night on my Apple TV 4th Gen when the screen went dark and the lights on the front started blinking slowly, it lasted like that for about 5 mins and then the light went to rapidly blinking for about 15 mins.  I finally went to bed thinking that it was updating to the new tvOS 10 that was released yesterday.  I woke up this morning and the lights are still rapidly blinking.  I did a restart on the controller and it came up blinking again.

Brought it into work this morning and tried to do a restore and got the error "Apple TV" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).

I've heard of the iOS 10 update screwing up some iPhones, however I haven't heard of anything with the Apple TV's.  I'm going to try to restore again with the tvOS 10 update and see if that takes, if not off to the Genius Bar for them to give me another one.  Very annoying!!

That wasn't a result of the update, you would have had to initiate the update, there was an issue in your environment that caused it to go into recovery mode.

Make sure the computer and iTunes are up to date. Try another USB-C cable.

Did you read what I said?  I have automatic updates on and it started the OTA update in middle of a movie.  Took it to the Apple Store and they confirmed that it's a result of the OTA update failing and they were unable to restore in store, they determined it was a software failure and replaced my Apple TV.  So it was a result of the update starting on its own.

Yes I did, and I do as well, however a big update like this needs to be initiated manually. The screen would indicate it was updating, going dark and a blinking light is a result of recovery mode. A corrupt update would be widespread and while it only went live yesterday there hasn't been anything to indicate as such.
