Q: Finder and shared Devices

I am using a IMAC with El Capitan 10.11.6. Also in a Network with a NAS QNAP and a Linux music server, both with Ethernet connection. Everything works fine. The music server as well as the NAS are recognized in Shared Devices. But after a while it does not work anymore, unexpectedly. I receive Message: “Original Device is not available”. But trough Finder/Computer or Finder/Network it still works. Only in Finder Shared it doesn’t. Can Anybody give me help on this item ?

NAS devices are not supported by OS X. However the first thing to verify is that your NAS device has the most up-to-date software which is available from the developers. As a general rule, it is wise to verify with the NAS developers that they support the version of OS X you are going to use prior to updating or upgrading OS X.

    Good luck.

NAS Devices do work fine on an OS. Of Course I have the latest software from both: IMAC and QNAP. But OS El Capitan as well as the former OS support QNAP NAS without any Problem. So there is something else what masters. If it is a software Problem with the NAS it is also a Problem with my Music Server. And I don’t believe that. I think it is an IMAC Apple OS Problem. In the Past all Things worked fine, but after using El Capitan, also with the latest update Problems are still there.

AS I previously stated OS  X does not support NAS technology. I should clarify that though. Apple does not support third party NAS's. If you can show me Apple documentation that proves OS X supports third party NASs then of course you will have my apology. However I don't think you will be able to show that.

i would urge you to contact a NAS forum for support, perhaps someone has found a solution to your problem.

    Good luck

Are you trying to tell me that you can't use a NAS Qnap on a IMAC within a netwerk Connection ?

And Why does it also give Problems with my Music Server (which is not a NAS)

I am only saying OS X does not support third party NASs And you and you are on your own.

No clue, however again it's not an Apple product so it's difficult to say what the issue is. Again, ensure it's verified to work on the version of El Capitan you have installed. We can only really support Apple products, third party peripherals the only thing we can suggest is what I already have and to check physical connections. While I don't think your situation is caused by a faulty connection it would not hurt to eliminate that as a possibility. Check the cable, if it's physically connected okay, then try another cable to verify you don't have a faulty cable.
