Q: Time Capsule - Problem with Backup

Hej!

I get the message "An error occurred while copying files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair the backup disk." From a bit of googling it appears that restarting the time capsule will make it perform a disk repair. So I have done that. The problem comes back, and sometimes it goes away, if I restart backup, which confuses me. Is there a way to see the error logs, and check what the problem is? I am concerned that the backup disk might have some hardware problems. I bought the airport time capsule little over a year ago (in Sweden).

Has anyone else encountered this, and what was your solution?

Most of the issues are network.. and the error messages may not actually clearly identify between a disk problem and network issue.

I bought the airport time capsule little over a year ago (in Sweden).

How long has this problem been going?

In Europe your warranty period maybe 2 or 3 years by law.

Certainly if you have AppleCare on a supported product.. computer, ipad or apple TV the TC will be replaced by Apple under warranty. Just explain your problem to them.

If you do not have access to warranty or replacement.

I strongly recommend you archive your TC disk if there is anything on it you need.. then do a single pass low level format. You do this from airport utility disk tab. Archive is there.. then the erase.

Erase use the one pass option.

This is a low level drive format. (Don't bother with 7 and never even dream of using 35).

If the problem continues once you restart the backup I suspect network issues.. or the TC is failing.. mine (3rd one in 3 years) has just gone the same way .. I pulled the disk and replaced it with a better brand than the base model known problematic seagate Apple used.

Thank you! I did this, let's see if it solves the problem. So far it looks good.
