Q: Disable iCloud music library on iOS10?

I don't like to keep music on my phone and after updating to iOS10 purchased music is now showing up on my phone (not downloaded but still automatically plays when connects to my car's bluetooth... streaming over my cellular data connecting I'm assuming). I've gone to settings > music > and looked to toggle off iCloud Music Library... no such setting. I've looked all around the music app for some setting to show downloaded music only but can't find any such setting. The only way it goes away is in settings > iTunes & app store > logging out... but then I'm not logged into the app store anymore. Does anyone know how I can get rid of all this cloud based music I don't want on my phone!??!

I updated to iOS10 this morning (I'm regretting that now - but that's another story).

As to iCloud Library, on my phone under Settings > Music I do have the option to toggle iCLoud Music Library to on or off.  Mine is currently set to off as I sync my phone via wifi sync after iCloud messed up my ratings in iOS9.  I'm not sure why yours would be missing - unless it was because mine what already off prior to the upgrade.

Following up to this, I enabled my iCloud Music Library and the option to toggle iCloud Music Library is still there so I could switch it off again if needed.

You should have the same option.

I used to be a Music Match subscriber and now I subscribe to Apple Music, so perhaps that is the difference.

You can try switching cellular data off if you have no intention of using Apple Music or iCLoud (which you can't access).  Sorry I can't help any more,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like they've gotten rid of toggling it "on" and "off" and instead you select "Downloaded Music" in the Music app. This brings up a list of music that's actually on your phone. If that option is missing then you can try clicking on "Edit" in the upper right hand corner of the music app and it's an option in there.

Thanks for your help! I have no physical music on my phone at all. It seems as if it's taking my purchased music from the cloud and streaming the songs (even though I have disable play over cellular). I have selected "edit" on the main screen turned off all the playlists (music stays)... then tired turning everything off but downloaded music (which has nothing in it). Nothing seems to work except signing out of iTunes & App store completely from settings. Then the music goes away, but my apps do not get updated until I sign back in (and then all the music comes right back). It's kind of frustrating

That is very odd.  I am looking at my settings in the same area under music, and right there I have a toggle for "icloud music library."   I'm not sure why yours is not there.  Do you have apple music turned on?  I turn it off and toggle still shows for icloud.

I have icloud turn off everywhere on my devices but music still shows up as if I have it activated.  Driving me nuts.

I don't have this setting either. I have the iPhone 7 and the newest update to iOS 10. iCloud Music Library is simply not a choice in any of the Settings menus. My podcast playlist supposedly won't show up unless I disable this option. It's hard to disable an option that just isn't there. Please help

I contacted apple yesterday for help with this issue. They could not provide me a solution. Tired of dealing with it! Hopefully someone at apple identifies the issue and corrects it soon!

I too have this issue, but only after upgrading to iOS 10.  Didn't happen with previous versions of iOS on my iPhone 6.  I verified I don't have any downloaded music and even turned off Cellular Data for Music, but somehow it's still playing the same 3 songs over and over when it connects to my car's bluetooth.  Funny enough, when I turn off "Show Apple Music", the Apple Music icon is still on my phone, so that's clearly a bug since it doesn't remove it.  Very annoying.
