If your iMessage app is glitching soon after updating iOS, you can try a few simple steps to resolve. Depending on the severity of the glitching, I would try force quitting the app first. Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You can relaunch then try the Messages app after quitting. If the issue remains, restart your iPhone. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If your messages app is still not functioning as expected, it may be best to back the device up then reinstall the update. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities to post your question. The steps above should have your Messages app working flawlessly!

I have been having this issue since yesterday. I have been trying everything that I can with the exception of reinstalling the update. I would like not to do that, if I don't have to.
I have a question about reinstalling:
Once I back-up my iPhone using iTunes, would that back-up re-install the same version of iOS 10? Or could I install (a new) iOS 10 and then use that back-up to bring by my current settings?
I hope that question makes sense.

Sep 15, 2016 3:16 PM in response to Madyxeby jwelsh88,Well, I ended up going back to Factory Settings. I then messaged a bit, it seemed to be working ok, and re-installed from a back-up. Fingers crossed, we seem to be in good shape.
Such a pain . . .
