Sep 14, 2016 12:19 PM in response to tarchicby seventy one,First, your Macbook pro does not operate on iOS. What OS are you using?
How far back in the past was your machine operating as you wanted it to.
What have you done since to change things (Upgraded your OS etc?).

Sep 14, 2016 12:46 PM in response to tarchicby ChitlinsCC,You say "memory seems fine" - what makes you say that?
EtreCheck will tell us precisely, but IF you have 4GB or less, there's your problem right there. Fro all reports, a MBPro that ran fine on Mavericks with 4GB will struggle with El Capitan

Sep 15, 2016 5:30 AM in response to lllaassby tarchic,Ok so it took awhile for the etrecheck to run, then I couldn't paste the results because the system was so slow I couldn't email it or access the support community so had to wait until I got to work this morning. Lots of adware was found and I tried to remove but said I couldn't because I didn't have Time Machine configured so I tried to do that and kept getting preference pane error Finally got it going but it's still backing up at home right now as we speak. Besides removing the adware, let me know if there is any additional insight you can provide from the report - greatly appreciated!!

Sep 15, 2016 5:52 AM in response to tarchicby JimmyCMPIT,★Helpfulwell first off, you have adware and you should remove it, etrecheck gives you the option to do this or you can use malwarebytes for mac (www.malwarebytes.com) for free, though no single method is 100%
secondly get rid of the fitbit app, it's known to cause problems. See the developers site for directions, do not simply drag and drop to trash it does not remove this type of application.
get rid of the MG app, it can't be identified.
get rid of the seagate app, let the OS manage the drive or expect problems.
once you do boot into safe mode then reboot normally.
