Q: FCPX Export Won't Start

Just spent all afternoon on a 10-minute movie. FCPX kept crashing/freezing as I worked. I'd reopen the program only to have it freeze again a few minutes later.

System restarts didn't make a difference. I currently have about 30 gigs free on my hard drive, which is way more than needed to edit/export this video.

I eventually was able to get the video done, but now when I try to export it, the "sharing," progress bar in Background tasks stays at 0%

Any ideas for things I could try to get this exported?

Thanks.

If you have an external drive, direct the export there.

Sounds like your system drive may be choking/not enough space.

Drives with 10% or less space should be considered full, time for house cleaning or moving stuff somewhere else.

Your drive is technically full.  That's why your crashing and freezing.  All Libraries and media should be on a fast enough external drive.  USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt, 7200rpm for spinning disk drives.  Clean off your system drive to have at least 15% of its total capacity as free space.  Less than that and  you get the issues you describe, and risk losing date, corrupting files (like your Library).
