    WD drive utilities

Uninstall it. Utilities such as those should never be installed on a Mac. Western Digital's "drive utility" and "drive manager" software has been known to cause hard disk drive corruption and data loss.

Launch Disk Utility and use its First Aid feature. Report any errors it finds.

Many drives include "free" utilities already installed on them. Western Digital is not alone, although their software is the only example I know of that has caused problems for Mac users.

That does not mean Seagate's or other, similar utilities can be relied upon either. The first thing you should do with any new hard disk drive is to erase it using Disk Utility, thereby erasing whatever extraneous junk its vendor may have included.
