Q: No 5 Star Song Rating in iOS 10

What is going on? Did Apple really remove the 5 Star Song Rating from the Music App in iOS 10. I can only find Like and Dislike. Well I have been using iTunes since it was SoundJam, and have been rating my songs using the 5 Stars, and making various Playlists based on those. And I have always used Music on iOS to rate songs, but not having that really drives me insane. It seems to be Apple thinking they are smarter than everyone once again, but not being right! I am not going to go through my 40,000+ music Library and rerate my mysic so simply! I might as well move to Windows and Android and re-rate there! Seriously this is taking my main featute out of the music player! You have to be kidding me!

agree. this is a disastrous move by apple. i've logged feedback, and i'm writing this as i wait for iOS 9.3 to download, so i can go back to having a phone that works for me.

Since I posted this morning, I have created a new workflow for me which is working quite well.  Of course it's not has good as if there was native functionality, but it works until Apple sees fit to put this back.

    1) I switched my phone back from wifi sync to use iCloud Music Library.

    2) I created five new playlists:

         A! Delete

         A! Rate 2

         A! Rate 3

         A! Rate 4

         A! Rate 5

(The A! in front forces it to the top of my playlists)

    3) I moved my smart playlists into a Smart Playlist folder.  That way the smart playlists do not sit at the top of my playlist list and the A! rating lists are at the top.

    4) When playing music I want to rate, I use the ... and add track to playlist. I then select the A! rating playlist I want.

    5) From iTunes, I go into the A! playlists, assign the ratings (switch on view ratings in preferences).  Once rated I remove the tracks from the playlists.

Yes, I shouldn't have to go through this work around, but I must admit it works pretty well and solves a view issues I had previously with tracks moving around on playlists mid-song as I changed the ratings.

I've done this too under the bug category... so annoyed with this right now.  It was bad enough that when you put a star on a song, it did it for the whole album but at least it was there.

anyway you right: this was better than the sh**t what we have now.

Maybe we could move to a multiple heart system?  Like/Dislike is not useful enough for me, how about let us rate a song between 1 and 5 hearts?

While the need to simplify the UI is understandable (this isn't an assessment of how well Apple achieved this goal with the iOS 10 version of Music), the iOS 9 implementation of this feature was just perfect: easy to access for those who needed it to organise their music and those who didn't care for it wouldn't ever know it was there...

I'Ve the same issue and also reported it as a feedback.

to all of you posting negative comments about apple: this might not be really supportive. Would be more helpful to officially report and mentioning the objective impact or need.

Ugh. Now all my smart playlists are broken. I need more than just a love/hate rating. There are songs that I love, some that are good, others that I kind of like and then those that I don't like. I MUST have 5 stars. I'm not a binary music 'rater'.

I also rate "on the fly" (with more or less stars as needed).  Doing so immediately and forever impacts the frequency that a song plays. . .   I also use the * 1 star to immediately remove a song from playlists . . .  So those song don't circulate until 1 star removed.

    This MUST come back!
