Q: So does the iPad need to be on the same Apple ID as the account that set up the Home?

I just upgraded to iOS10 - and had a Home setup that I have invited my wife to under her own iCloud account (because you need to do that).

Her iPad is the one that is at home and wanted to use as a hub, but when I turn it on it doesn't work.

I assume that is because she is just a guest to my home setup...

This stinks if it doesn't work properly...asssuming a home is composed of a family...why wouldn't the ability to use an iPad on my wife's iCloud account that is part of my iCloud family be able to act as a hub for our home?

    Hi, leisureman67!

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I see that you set up the Home app on your iOS 10 device using your Apple ID, and invited your wife using her own Apple ID. Now you'd like to set up an iPad to be the home hub, but it is using our wife's Apple ID. I definitely understand wanting that hub set up--it's a very convenient feature of the Home app! I would be happy to give you some information about setting it up.

The following article reviews the steps you need to take to set up a Home Hub.

Automate and remotely access your HomeKit accessories

In it, it discusses that you must first set up your HomeKit accessories in the Home app on your other iOS device, then sign into iCloud on the device you wish to use as the hub with the same Apple ID.

    Get started

    Set up your home hub:

    • On iPad: Go to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID. Make sure you turn on iCloud Keychain and Home. Then go to Settings > Home and turn on Use this iPad as a Home Hub.

Since the iPad is your wife's, I can suggest that she set up the HomeKit accessories on a different iOS device using her own Apple ID (if possible) and then invite you, or (if she does not have another iOS device) you would have to sign into your Apple ID on the iPad to use it as a hub. Alternatively, if you have another iPad that is iOS 10 compatible or an Apple TV (4th generation) that you can sign in with your Apple ID on, you can use that as the hub instead of your wife's iPad.

    Cheers!
