Q: app updates on macbook pro

The App store wants me to update an app on my MacBook Pro that I didn't buy, don't own, don't need, don't want, etc.

The App is Blackmagic Disk Speed Test.

How do I get rid of this update notice from my updates page?

I can't remove it from the list of apps I've bought because I never bought it!

Any Suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Mid-2010

Just in case, see if you purchased the app using a different Apple ID >  Use these steps to see which Apple ID you used to download an item.

Other than that, you can report the problem >  https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

Have you installed any apps that you got for free from a source other than the Mac App Store that is a paid app in the Mac App Store?

Thank you for your reply.  I'm going to have to do some archeological research I guess:  I've had an old iPod, 1st gen iPad, iBook G4, and a mac mini so I'm pretty sure I had at least one other account.  But, even if I had purchased it (or downloaded it as it looks to be free) under an different account and that long ago, why would it be just updating for the first time now?   Looks like the app is on release 3.0, so ... hmmm.

You've given me a place to start, so I will track down whether I ever downloaded the app in the good old days.  If I find not, I will report the problem at the link you provided.

    Thank you again.

I sure don't remember downloading a free app elsewhere, but I'd also never say never!  I'll check to see if it's in my apps folder and if so will update it!  Thank you for responding to my question.

    Aha!

I looked in my Applications folder and there it was.  I was shocked, but there it was.

Then I thought, well, OK, I'll update it.  When I clicked on the update tab in the Apps store, the drop-down sign-in form showed someone else's email address.  That was weird!

Then I finally figured it out - I had a solid state hard drive installed earlier this year and the first name on the email address was the first name of the tech who did the installation.  Makes perfect sense, he was testing the new drive for performance.

So, I wasn't losing my mind and I didn't download the app in my sleep or something.

Not quite sure how to proceed from here, since I can't sign in to update it.  Should I just delete the app?  Will that cancel the updates?

Yes, drag & drop it in the Trash and flush it away.
