You need to active Raise to Wake feature by the following:
go to settings then display & brightness then active the raise to wake feature .
Hopefully this will help.

The devices that have an embedded M9 chip required for Raise to Wake are:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE
