Q: Macbook Pro 15" late 2013 too slow performance

Hi everyone,

My macbook pro 15" late 2013 me294, Core i7 haswell 2.3Ghz, Ram 16GB, SSD PCI 256GB, GT 750m & Iris Pro.

Geek benchmarks of multicore is too lower than another macbook same type (Me 294).

This is my macbook: Multi-core benchmarks score about 6000

https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/337791

https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/337570

This is another same type (Me 294): Multi-core benchmarks score about 12000

https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/search?q=model:%22MacBook%20Pro%20(15-inc h%20Retina%20Late%202013)%22%20platform:…

I restart before benchmarks, I don't know why?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), null

Benchmarks are pretty much meaningless but they are affected by what processes may be running in the background. Try booting into safe mode and test.

If you think your Mac is running slower than it should download and run EtreCheck and post the results.

Well, it ran EtreCheck fast enough with an excellent rating and nothing stands out except I don't know what "GoTiengViet" is and you probably don't need "TechTool" You have HAXM installed, I take it to create Android apps.

Other than the benchmarks, why do you think it's slow?

Yup , "GoTiengViet" and "TechTool" is my tool for typing.

Yes, I have HAXM installed because I'm android developer.

"Other than the benchmarks, why do you think it's slow?"

    => I see geek-benckmarks of multi-core is too lower than another macbook identically configured (6000 < 12000).

It is very unusual. I think my macbook have a hardware issue. Hope I wrong.

google chrome helper is using 25% of your CPU. It has been argued here that Chrome is or isn't a problem for many OS X users so I know Brains stance and I don't wish to argue with his personal experience or expertise, but you could try to remove it and see for yourself it there is any difference, if not simply reinstall it and you've rulled it out.

Shut down, disconnect all external devices and test your hardware

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

if no issue are found aboot into safe mode

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

then reboot normally with external devices still disconnected and test

and geekbench is based on an "out of the box" system, not one actually configured for a user so take it with a grain of salt and a heaping pitchfork of suspicion.

What I tried to explain before is, benchmarks can be misleading. Unless you can compare the same model Mac with the same software you have installed, it really has no meaning.

TechTool Pro is a maintenance program so I'm not sure what it has to do with your typing. Unless you need it for typing, I would uninstall it.

One thing strikes me: on one hand, you have FileVault enabled, which indicates a concern with the privacy of your data; on the other hand you went out of your way to disable SIP (System Integrity Protection), rendering your system more vulnerable to malicious software.

I personally would advise against using FileVault unless:

    1) the sensitive nature of the documents justifies it or you are under superior orders to use it

    and

    2) the data is safely backed up (which is true also for nonencrypted drives, but even more critical in this case)

One other thing: I presume the application GoTienViet has something to do with input in the Vietnamese language.

It may make sense to set is as a login item, but it is starting not from the Applications folder; it is starting, I presume, from a disk image.

About Chrome, I ran EtreCheck just to make a point, Chrome, although open and running doesn't even make it to the top CPU%…

    Top Processes by CPU: ⓘ

             3%    kernel_task

             2%    WindowServer

             2%    fontd

             1%    launchd

             0%    sysmond

    Top Processes by Memory: ⓘ

        1.69 GB    kernel_task

        1.38 GB    softwareupdated

        1.22 GB    firefox

        786 MB    plugin-container

        655 MB    Google Chrome Helper(6)

On the other hand, When I ran Activity Monitor, it used 27% of the CPU for a couple seconds. I'm not uninstalling it either.
