Q: Name tags for faces remove last names on iOS Photos

Application: Photos

OS: iOS 10.0.1

I have noticed that on Photos iOS 10, if you assign a name to a face, i.e. "John Doe", Photos will only keep the first name ("John") if the person matches someone from your address book. The face will be named only "John". Consequently, you will not be able to search and find "John Doe" or "Doe" in Photos, only "John".

If I name a face with a name that Photos does not match to a contact, the full name remains intact and I can search accordingly.

This makes the search much less useful, for obvious reasons. Is anyone seeing the same behaviour?

Yes, it happens for all names taken from Contact cards.  And that is a most annoying pitfall, because I cannot find out the full name of a person from the tag below the Persons album. I have to search the person in the contacts and compare the photo on the card to the photo in Photos. My current work-around is not to use any name from my Contact cards to prevent the abbriviation of the names. I add a prefix to all names for the persons. Instead of "John Doe" I use "Italy: John Doe", if I met John while on vacation in Italy. This helps to group the persons by the events I met them.
