Sep 13, 2016 9:00 AM in response to Eric Rootby Warrren Anderson,There is no Time Machine.plist in my user>Library and using find, the only file on my Machine that contains the name "Time Machine" is the Time Machine app.
Also when Time Machine refuses to restore anything except my user folder and I hit cancel, there is a delay and then all of my finder windows are closed BUT there are now two user folders on my desktop!

Sep 15, 2016 7:31 AM in response to Warrren Andersonby Eric Root,I'd start a new post, since so far, my suggestions haven't helped.
Something else you can try is a 'force' mount of the backups. While in Time Machine, to see all mounted volumes shift - command - c. Information learned from Linc Davis.

Sep 15, 2016 7:41 AM in response to Eric Rootby Warrren Anderson,Thanks, this is helpful. When I hit shift command C I see the root directory of my hard drive. I still have a problem though. I have the root directory of the drive open in the finder. When I hit cancel, there is a pause and then I have two of them.

Sep 15, 2016 7:47 AM in response to Warrren Andersonby Eric Root,You are welcome. I'm not sure I understand. You now have 2 root directories on the computer? Two Finder windows open?

Sep 15, 2016 7:50 AM in response to Warrren Andersonby Warrren Anderson,Also another problem: When I hold down the option key and click on the Time Machine icon in the menu bar the verify backups item is in the menu but it's inactive. I used the new dumbed-down version of Disk Utility's first aid function to tune up my external drive so I don't think that it's a problem.

Sep 15, 2016 9:52 AM in response to Warrren Andersonby Eric Root,I'm rapidly running out of things to suggest. Starting a new post might make all this more visible so someone else can help.
What happens if you Force Quit Finder? Does that fix the duplication?
