Q: iOS 10 and  no GIFs with 5s???

I have the 5s (just ordered the 7 though) and when I click the A icon when imessaging, I have no GIFs on the 2nd swipe screen. I get the handwriting screen and the apple music screen and that is it. My friend has the 5s and has the GIFs but not me. She also has 4 little dots not he bottom and I only have 2. I have rebooted several times. Thoughts on how I can obtain the GIFs? Thanks so much.

    Hi erichmark,

I understand that you have updated to iOS 10, and you're not seeing gifs in the available iMessage apps. I know it's great to use gifs to communicate, so I'm happy to help with this.

Check out this article to see more about how to use the App Store for iMessage:
Use iMessage apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Find apps that you can use with Messages

The app drawer gives you quick access to apps that you can use with Messages.

    To open your app drawer:

    1. Open Messages, tap , and enter a contact or tap on an existing conversation.
    2. Tap  , then tap
    3. Tap  in the lower-left corner to open the app drawer.

In this app drawer, you should see an option for #images. If you do not have that option, check out the App Store for other options:

    Download iMessage apps

Use the App Store for iMessage to download apps to use with Messages.

    1. Open the app drawer and tap  to go to the App Store for iMessage.
    2. Tap  next to the app, then tap Install.
    3. Enter your Apple ID password.

After the app downloads, you can find it in the app drawer.

Some apps let you make additional purchases within the app. If you set up Family Sharing, you can use Ask to Buy to help control app downloads and in-app purchases. Learn more about in-app purchases.

You'll get back to sharing gifs with your friends in no time!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!

First and foremost, THANK YOU. Yes, I had figured the part out about downloading some free apps for the GIFS but I still couldn't find the main GIF app that came with the download. All my friends said their stickers and GIF apps came with the iOS 10 download and mine had nothing. I am now using Giffy but still can't find what GIF app Apple is using in general because the GIFs are quite good. Thank you again, by the way, for responding! Super kind.

    Hi erichmark,

Thanks for following up! We're glad you were able to get some form of gif search working but can certainly understand wanting the ones that come with iOS 10.

Check out this note in that same article:
Use iMessage apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support:

#images*: Choose from hundreds of trending images and videos to add to Messages.

*#images isn't available in all countries.

If you believe that you are in a country where this should be available, check restrictions on your iPhone to make sure that there is nothing enabled here that could prevent it. If no restrictions are needed, then just check that they are turned off:
Use Restrictions on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you still do not see the default #images, you may find more information using another one of Apple's resources:
    Contact Apple Support

    Cheers!
