Q: Sms messages being sent to iMessages on other devices when iPhone has iMessages off and no date
I went hiking this weekend and did not have a data connection so I turned iMessages off to send sms texts. Problem is, I had a new iPad sitting at home connected to wifi with imessages turned on. I came home to messages from other iPhone users that were never sent to my phone. The weird part about all of this is they were identified by their phone number used to send message (my contacts are not shared with my new iPad so everyone was identified by their phone number).
Why were the text not sent as sms to my iPhone? Is there anything to prevent this from happening other than remembering to turn off my iPad?
I Was able to send and receive sms from non iPhone users.
iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.5

iMessage is tied to your phone number. Turning it off on your phone does not do away with that association. Since the iPad was turned on, the messages were sent there. This is to be expected. If you want to disable iMessage, you need to disable it on ALL of your devices.
