Q: unable to synch iPod Classic with iTunes library

PLEASE HELP.

Been some 2 months that I am having this issue.

When starting iTunes, then connecting my iPod, the iPod does not show up, not detected on screen.

Problem started when I went thru FULL iTunes application update, as required by Apple.

Run all checks, run diagnostics (device synch tests). Nothing. Says: No iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad can be found.

Interesting to note that it says: iPod touch, not classic. The one I got is old iPod Classic 80 GB.

As I say it was all good, till done the Update to Itunes library application. Then went nuts!

Please help, so i can synch the new music downloaded in my library into the iPod.

Thank you

iPod classic, Windows 7

Some of those iTunes device-related commands apply to iOS computing devices, not the media player iPods.  So not being found may not be applicable for your iPod.

When you connect it to your computer's USB port, watch the iPod's screen.  Does it say "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" or give other indication of data connection?  Or does it only show the battery charging symbol?  Or does it not react at all to being connected?

Since this problem started after updating iTunes, you may want to use the procedure to completely remove iTunes and related software components.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

Be sure to remove the listed components of iTunes installation in the described order.  Then download and install the latest version from here

Thanks Ken. When connected to my pc - laptop. Nothing shows on screen, except of course list of contents in the iPod.

No: "Connected" or "Do not disconnect". Just battery charging symbol.

I hate to uninstall Itunes. As last time did that last year, it erased all my music files, everything.

I hope that my iPod Classic is not corrupted!

    Regards

Well, you should be backing up your iTunes library data (on your computer) anyways, along with the rest of your user data, because your computer or its drive can fail without warning.  For iTunes, backing up involves consolidating your iTunes library data into your iTunes folder (located in your user home folder Music folder), and then copying it to an external drive.  This document describes one way to do the backup.

Manage and back up your iTunes media library - Apple Support

(Mac users have an easier way using the built-in Time Machine feature in OS X.)

Since you describe this problem as starting when you applied an update for iTunes, I think a likely solution is to use that procedure to completely remove iTunes (and components) and reinstall latest version.  Removing iTunes (the application) does not erase your iTunes library data (on your computer), which is stored in a separate location (in your user home folder).  The new iTunes installation uses your existing iTunes library data.

Are all songs currently on your iPod in your computer's iTunes library?

Thanks. Its the other way, as in wanting to load the few remaining songs from Library into iPod, so can use/listen thru iPod. Can't synch from Lib to iPod.

I went to my pc iTunes Music Lib, many codes, therefore cannot say if all music is inside the file. here is copy of name:

    C:\Users\TT\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml

Think this is the right name/location for iTunes files.

    # Do not have seperate hard disk to store on, in order to go thru process of uninstall, install.

This is becoming frustrating. If it were only uninstall/install and everything will automatically reappear, great. But for me without experience, may lose all.

    Rgds

I'm just saying you should already be backing up ALL of your user data on your computer, manually or with an automated system for Windows, because computers and drives fail all the time.  Regardless of iTunes problem, you need to back up your user data regularly.

So, all songs currently on iPod are in your computer's iTunes library?  If so, you can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode and connecting it to your computer running iTunes.

How to put your iPod into disk mode - Apple Support

Before connecting it, you may want to shut down (power off) the computer.  Disconnect all USB devices; you can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so it's not running on battery power).  Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer, by itself.  Try more than one port, if needed.

If iTunes recognizes iPod in Disk Mode, iTunes should prompt you to do a Restore on iPod (with a message about "recovery").  This erases the iPod, so if you're OK with that (because all songs on iPod are in your iTunes library), do the Restore.  Then, iTunes invites you to "Get Started" with your iPod, like it's brand new.  Set it up to automatically sync your complete music library again.
