Q: best way to set up a new iMac with backed up files?
Hi all,
I'm new here so please forgive me if I do something wrong. Just recently got a new iMac and wanted to get all my music work software and other files installed. I used the Migration Assistant on the iMac to move files from a recent Time Machine back up of my Macbook Pro. After what appeared to be a successful migration I noticed Garageband, iMovie and a few other Apple products needed to be updated. My new iMac was updated to the latest versions before the migration assistant was used. My questions are, was this the best way to go about a new set up, and did this somehow revert my new machines settings back to old settings of the Macbook Pro? Could it have changed anything speed wise or picture and sound quality wise? i.e. resolution, bit depth or the like?
Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

Yes. For other resources - Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support and

Software, Apple's and 3rd party will need to be updated to work with your new os system. You can check the RoaringApps website which will make checking easier.
