I have found that with iOS 10 it requires a little more finesse to take screenshots than it has before. I have an iPhone 6s, and it seems it requires one to be more careful on how much time elapses between pushing the sleep/wake button and then the home button. I suggest not pushing and holding the home button, as it will engage Siri. I have found that with Touch ID, I need to sometimes press the home button with a fingernail since it seems the method of using the home button to open the screen even after using Touch ID may have changed things a bit. I know that the method of taking a screenshot with the iPhone 7 is reportedly changed because of the new Home button, where one will use the sleep/wake and volume button, but I have not seen where it has changed with the older devices. I'm researching that now.

From the iPhone iOS 10 User Guide, http://help.apple.com/iphone/10/#/iph1e767793c

Take a screenshot. To capture what’s displayed on your screen, simultaneously press and release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. The screenshot is added to the Photos tab in Photos, and you can also view it in the Screenshots album or All Photos album (if you’re using iCloud Photo Library).

To follow up on @ChrisJ4203's excellent comments (as always) ...

I also have an iPhone 6S.  My technique for taking screen shots has always been to very briefly press both the home and on/off buttons together (as closely as possible).  I find this technique works the same for me in iOS 10 as it did in iOS 9.  I would say my time of depressing the home button is much too short to invoke Siri.

I've had this problem also.  The technique I used before upgrading to iOS 10 no longer works for me.  I've either ended up turning the phone off or jumping to the home screen.  This IS a real issue.

I have figured out something that does consistently work for me.

    1.  Lay phone unto a horizontal surface.

    2.  Use one finger of my right hand to keep the phone from moving.

    3.  Use my R thumb to press the on/off button while I use my L ring finger (not one in my touch ID options) to press the home button.

I'm back to nearly 100% success with screenshots.  If you are able to hold your phone while doing steps 2 & 3 you can skip step one.  With my arthritis I cannot.

It seems to be working normally now. Thanx. :-)
