Q: iPad Air 2 - WiFi but no Internet Connection [BT Smart Hub]

Since updating to iOS10 last night, my iPad Air 2 won't get an internet connection to my new BT Smart Hub.

All my other devices (iPhone 6, 6s, laptop, iPad mini, etc.) are all working fine.

Things done so far:

Reset the router

Restored the iPad both as a backup and as a new device

Reset network settings, including lease

The hub is definitely picking up the iPad, but it won't give it an internet connection. There is no VPN software that I know of on the iPad.

If I connect the iPad to another device (i.e. to my phone on a hotspot) then the internet works fine.

Spoke with BT and they said they can see no issues and as all my other devices are working then there must be something wrong with the iPad settings. :/

Clicking on the next to my wireless connection, it looks like the router isn't giving any info back the iPad (i.e. there is no IP, Subnet, Router, DNS, etc info).

At a total loss as to what to do next - this is my main iPad sunk in the wall to control the house so it kind of needs to work!

iPad Air, iOS 10

Hi. Have you enabled access control on the router? Maybe you need to allow the iPad again. Have you reset network settings, Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings? I assume you can see the network. What happens when you enter the password? It sounds like you're having trouble connecting to WiFi, not to the internet.

I've reset network settings, I've restored the iPad to as new.

I can see the network; password is accepted, but then no internet (i.e. can connect to wifi, but can't connect to the internet)

    So confused!

Resorted to switching back to an older BT Hub (HH5) and it seems ok for now.

Essentially it looks like the router was not allowing the iPad (and this morning my iPhone) to hold an IP address.

    Hi

At the back of all routers there should be a small reset button just press & hold in

For 10 seconds to reset router .

Before doing that on ipad in WiFi settings - forgot the network you are trying to connect to .

    Cheers

    Brian

I have exactly the same problem - iPad Air 2 connects to wifi immediately (shown as connected in settings) but wifi icon on top left of screen never appears, so no internet.

No problem with iPhone 6S (iOS10), Macbook Air, various other iPhones and iPads in the family.

Tried all the suggestions and nothing works for this particular device only. All others fine.

I have an iPad4 and on updating to IOS10 the iPad connected to the smart hub without any problem but then dropped off.  The iPad can see the router and the password is accepted but no connection is made.  In Smart Hub diagnostics the hub can see the iPad but there is no connection.  I have tried every possible method of resetting but to no avail.

I too have the same problem.  I can access friends BT hubs but not my BT smart hub at home which my IPad previously accessed. I have tried all the fixes suggested with no luck.

would love to get some further suggestions or do I have to ditch the brand new smart hub?

Had this exact issue with my wife's iPad Air 2 and the new BT Smart Hub. The messages on here gave me an idea, so I gave the iPad a static IP address and the issue was fixed. Copied all the details from another device but changed the IP address so the last three digits were just a few numbers down, say .232 not .238. Problem solved or at least solved for now.

I have exactly the same problem with my 128GB iPad Air2. Tried all the suggestions here and in other places with no luck.... except for the switch to static IP approach, which has worked a treat :-) not ideal, but does the trick until either Apple/BT hoepfully fix it with an update at some point!

Many of us have exactly the same problem connecting the iPad Air 2 to the Smart Hub.

I 'solved' the problem completely by returning to the Home Hub 5. This is irritating given that I paid to get the Smart Hub and, apart from this, it works very well and has a good range.

Hopefully there will be a Smart Hub firmware upgrade at some point.

Had exactly the same problem.   IOS10 + SmartHub +iPadAir 2

Tried everything including hard reset of the iPad - no luck.

Following hint below - tried changing the iPad to fixed IP address on the SmartHub..  Bingo! It connected.

Went back to check some time later and the SmartHub seems to have reset the iPad to DHCP.  Don't know why but don't really mind as it's all working now.

Clearly some incompatibility between SmartHub and IOS 10.  Hopefully Apple or BT will eventually fix it properly but for now the Static IP address setting fixed my problem.

Same as everyone else. Some iOS devices connect since iOS10 and some don't with the Smart Hub

As soon as I go back to the HomeHub fine, they all work fine.

Don't see BT being in a hurry to fix this either

I had the same issue and resetting the BT SmartHub  to factory settings seems to have corrected the problem.
