Q: magic mouse loses connection

I have an iMac 21.5" running 10.11.6. I recently added a bluetooth connectivity for an existing stereo system so I could stream to the system. Coincidently since then I am losing my mouse connection. I get the "connection lost" notification even if the mouse is sitting idle with no hands even close to it. I've tried the suggested pieces of paper, changing the batteries and anything else I found posted. Nothing is working. As I have been typing this I have gotten the message several times and I'm not even using the mouse! I have another computer in another location and plan on trying switching them to see if the problem changes. I suspected that the added bluetooth device could be the culprit but I tried disconnecting it and had the same results. It is not a problem with the other computer, running the same OS although a year or so older hardware. The intermittent mouse problem did exist prior but I lived with it because it didn't seem to be that bad. Now I have moved and am in an apartment complex and wonder if there is an outside interference causing me grief. I don't know of replacing the mouse with a non Apple unit will resolve the problem or if I need to resort to a WIRED one to fix it! The keyboard has never given me problems and except for the weak battery notification it has performed flawlessly.
