Q: Making External Boot Drive

My MacBook 2010 with OS 10.6.8 had a HD crash, and I have a Time Machine Backup.

Can I make an external boot HD with OS 10.6.8 through the new computer that is running OS 10.11.6?

I would like to use an external boot drive on the MacBook 2010 until I can get a new internal HD for it.

There are some programs I would like to use on the Time Machine Backup OS 10.6.8

Would welcome any ideas. Thank you.

    HI Lanny,

Just a quick update on the MacBook that crashed from an assumed HD crash.

I reformated the drive using the overwrite 9 times with zeros, which took about 13 hours.

After which I was able to install a system that runs. I have been using this for Photoshop which is an old version that won't run on the new MacBook Pro which has 10.11.6.

The only thing is the WiFi won't work, which isn't an issue, but other than that it seems to work fine. I started to wonder if the original crash isn't something to do with the motherboard, but other than the WiFi everything seems to work fine.

This seems an interesting solution to the problem that may help others.

I don't store any document on the internal HD just in case it crashes again!
