Q: Can I keep only some originals photos on devices with iCloud photo library?

Hi. I am not using iCloud Photo Library but I am wondering if starting to use it.

I have about 150GB photos which I keep on my Mac and I like to have the best of them synced on my iOS device for a very fast availability.

I see that iCloud Photo Library settings allow user to either keep original or optimise iOS device storage.

As it is too much to keep 150GB on my iPhone, but at the same time I would like to have original photos for a very few albums, is it possible to make a selection of what to keep on the iPhone as original?

Finally, have you an idea of how much space is used on the device if "Optimise iPhone Storage" is selected and only space-saving versions are kept on the iPhone? Let's say, for 100GB original photo, how much do I need for the optimises versions?

It is dynamic. Photos will optimize originals, if you are needing more storage. It will keep the photos you most recently used and optimize older photos, that have not been viewed in a long time.  But you have no control over which photos will be optimized and which photos will remain full sized.

It is not documented and will depend on the size of your original photos. You will save more, if the originals are very large.

But it has been reported here, that the optimization reduced the library size to roughly 10% of the original size. So 10GB should suffice in your example.
