Q: iOS 10 Clock

I opened Clock for the first time in iOS10 and was aghast to find out that it now has white lettering on a black background, and there is no way to turn it back to having a much more readable, easier on the eyes, black lettering on a white background. I contacted Apple Support and the only suggestion they had was to give feedback to Apple.

The other annoying feature of Clock in iOS 10 is the Bedtime feature. Click it and you are told: Going to bed and waking up at the same times every day are keys to healthy sleep.

Oh, really? Give me a break. I don't need my iPhone to tell me when to go beddy bye and when to wake up. This is the most infantile feature yet.

Clock is now in dark mode probably because so many people use it at night when going to bed. The bedtime feature is a health addition that some people will find useful (it adjusts to the individuals hours) and some people really like it. If you don't then don't use it.

    Then switch it off?

Perhaps that's why they changed it, but Apple should let users decide if they want black lettering on white or white lettering on black. The white lettering on black is so horrid to look at, I can't stand to open the Clock app.

Why are you telling us? This is a user forum. We can't change it. Send feedback to Apple if you don't like it.

It's not a matter of turning it on or off. I clicked it once to see what it was about and when I read "Going to bed and waking up at the same times every day are keys to healthy sleep," it made me want to hurl. Does Apple think so little of iPhone users that it feels it needs to tell us when to go to bed and wake up? Just having the "Bedtime" button in the Clock is condescending. A feature like that should not even exist on a phone used by adults. If you need your phone to tell you when to go to bed and when to get up, you're too infantile to use a phone. You need Mommy and Daddy to put you to bed and wake you up.

What features are coming in iOS 11? Potty Time? Nap Time?

I did send feedback to Apple. I was wondering if others users felt the same. I'm appalled that Apple stooped to this level of condescension. I've been using Apple computers for decades. The latest changes to Clock stunned me. It's not the well thought out, designed product I expect from them.

FWIW, this user does not feel the same as you. Switching to dark mode is a thoughtful change. Anything that leads to better health is admirable. Theres nothing condescending about it. Use it if you wand, ignore if you don't.

Apparently you are in the minority on this one. Other apps also have options for Dark Mode in iOS 10 and OS X had offered a dark mode before this. I do agree it would be nice to have it switchable. I don't agree with you on the bedtime alarms, people have different needs for how much sleep they need and it is all to easy for time to get away from you at night. You've never been in a situation where someone says something like, "Oh my goodness, look how late it is. Where did the time go?"

It might be that your reaction to this is you aren't getting the correct amount of sleep. Or you can wait for next years new Health features aimed at anger management and OCD.

I'm finding the "Breathe" feature on my Watch to be quite helpful when I find myself getting snitty.

I'm sure the OP would find that one infantile also. Using it about 20 times a day now?

Of course, I also find the Bedtime feature interesting. I'm reserving judgment on its utility but I like the concept. I struggle with getting myself to bed at a decent hour. There's always something (did someone mention ASC?) attracting me attention. I tell myself, just five more minutes..... My New Years resolutions for the last two years have been to average seven hours of sleep a night and to stop using the snooze button. Both continue to be a challenge.

What Apple should do is remove these nanny features from its regular apps like Clock, and create a new app called "My Nanny". Adults could ignore this app, but for those who need help getting to sleep on time, waking up, knowing when to go potty, take a breathe, eat, drink, etc., etc., could download My Nanny and let it guide them through their day. Putting a function like Bedtime into an app like Clock is insulting.
