Q: Photo albums not syncing on iOS 10

Every time I try to sync my regular photo albums to my iPhone with the newly updated iOS 10, the photos sync but aren't showing in albums.

They show in the photos tab under different dates, but not in the albums section in the appropriate album titles the they are synced with.

Ive never had this problem until updating to iOS 10 today.

Please help! Having these photos sorted into albums is a necessity for me!

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3, null

    Same here...

When I updated to iOS10 I had all my albums on iPhone...

Than I sync with iTunes and albums dissapeared! Photos are there, but albums are gone...

Syncing from folders of course, not from iphoto or photos on mac...

Please tell me there is solution other than reverting to iOS9, or making all albums manualy (nearly imposible with that amount of pics)

I guess we will have to see if anyone with more knowledge of this situation posts a solution to this problem; or, also has found a workaround. Or, if it is a bug.

I wonder if this happens ONLY to those of us who are synchronizing photos from a 'FOLDER' rather than using iPhoto or Photos.

If that's the case, then this is a situation where Apple has removed another feature from it's software (iTunes) and is trying to force users to use Photos app on our macs.

On a separate note, I will probably switch back to another operating system/phone in the future to gain the earphone jack back.

    I fixed it! Somehow.....

I have a folder on my Mac called iPhone... It is full of subfolders containing photos. Usually, when I sync the Folder iPhone, all the subfolders will appear as albums one my iPhone.
    That wasn't happening.

I added 2 new subfolders and thought i'd try one last time to sync... annnnd they all appeared! Not sure if it was just a glitch or if I didn't have enough subfolders etc.

No clear answer but it worked so maybe try it!

I have the same problem. So far as I can tell, Apple seems to be stopping this whole idea of us creating our own albums. I have had several "personal Albums" in the past. lately they would not appear in the order by name, or any other order. After I synced they would all be out of order, each time in a different order, too. Now we can't even create our own albums at all. They never bothered to fix, or even addressed the screw up when it started a few years ago. I am glad i only updated my ipod to find this out. I have NO intention of updating any other devices for me or my family. They can Keep It!  I'm tired of Apple ruining what was once good for what is worse than before. Remember when we could use our photos as backgrounds WITHOUT messing up the picture??? They never bothered to fix that either......

I'm starting to smell Microsoft's attitude wafting from in Cupertino.....

Yeah!!! That did solve problem! So, It's definitely a bug!

I add just one pics subfolder next to existing ones, and all of them show up after sync!!! than I remove that folder, and sync again, albums stay on iPhone!!!

This is not something Apple is doing to use the "Photos" application. This happened to me aswell when syncing with Photos. The work around works perfectly, I wasn't sure where to find the "iPhone" folder in my computer as an answer says. But to work around you can do it on your iPhone.

    1. Open photos on your iPhone.
    2. Create 2 new albums with anything in them.
    3. Sync with Photos/Folder from Mac.

There, photos will now appear in their respective album.

The Photos environment of Apple was the one I trusted the most.
But from iPhotos to Photos app, it has been the opposite of an improvement.
Then, new iPhone today, restored, albums gone. Luckly, the photos are still there... I was going to have an heart attack.
Apple, please, pay attention to our photos, do not mess with them.

Can't find this folder, where should it be? Inside my PhotoLibrary archive maybe? It isn't there.
Tried creating album on both Mac's Photos app and iPhone, no luck...

    What folder?

We are talking about folder where you have photos which you want to sync (when you'r not using photos app). In my case I named it "iPhone" and it's on external hard on server... you maybe name it "personal stuff" . Physical folder on hard drive where you put all your photos and on which you navigate itunes to sync iphone...

I'm using iCloud Photos so the sync "should be" automatic.
    Anyway, I finally solved too!

I added random albums to both Mac's and iPhone's apps, then I updated iOS from 10.0 to 10.0.1. Maybe a reboot would have solved too, but with this procedure, finally my albums appeared.

Disabling and re-enabling iCloud Photo from iPhone didn't solved at first.

    Now I got it.
I'm using iCloud Photo so I don't manually sync, I just use Photos app on Mac, that's why the "folder" didn't mean anything to me.
I solved anyway, adding random albums to iPhone and Mac's Photos, and rebooting (in fact I upgraded from iOS 10 to 10.0.1 but probably it just needed a reboot)

I did that, and it worked. But when i added some music, and synced, the photos albums i added were all messed up again! There were multiple albums some with the same names, photos were all in the wrong albums and all were out of order again and duplicated across the albums...

Then, I deleted the ipod cache folders synced and it was ok until a second sync,

Then I changed the folder names and each time the photos ended up messed up again after a second sync,

I then added folders, still, after a second round of syncing the same results.

I also tried this: when after syncing, I unchecked Sync Photos - when it prompts to Keep Photos , I choose Keep and not delete. It worked. As long as i dont sync again, the albums and their photos will stay correctly. But when I sync again, they end up messed up again.

This is the same for my iphone, ipads (4th gen and Ipad pro) and ipods 5&6. So it is clearly something with Itunes..... this is the same issue with previous Itunes versions, too. I used to be able to solve it by renaming the folder that contains my photo album folders and delete ipod cache folder. But now that only works once..... Also each time I get an Apple update it messes up the photo albums in the same way.

Oh, also, does anyone know how to turn off People (faces) feature? I have no use for it, and it adds yet another album...
