Sep 16, 2016 12:23 PM in response to xtifferby turingtest2,iTunes happily closes when instructed to for me. Do you have anything connected to the scripting interface? Perhaps if you post a screenshot of the exit dialog?

Sep 16, 2016 12:39 PM in response to xtifferby turingtest2,Tools like Last.fm or Plex may use it to read the contents of the iTunes library if there is no iTunes Library.xml file for them to read. See About iTunes library files - Apple Support. You can use also scripts (small programs written in plain text) to automate certain tasks in iTunes, but then you'd probably know if you were doing that.

Sep 16, 2016 1:14 PM in response to turingtest2by xtiffer,Eventually managed to find the culprit: ipod, exe, a programme that I di not, to my knowledge, install.
I have deleted it and now hope to be rid of the problem.
