Q: iOS 10 and iBook. Can someone help me change my iBooks reading to actually look like a book?

Hello, I'm looking for help with iBooks and iOS 10.  Before iOS 10 I was able to read my iBooks in landscape and actually looked like a book that I would read if I purchased it but now if I read a book and landscape I'm not seeing that anymore in iBooks now that I'm up graded my iPad To iOS 10. Can anyone help me?

Thanks Chrissy

    Hi Chrissyy2008,

I understand that when reading your ebook in iBooks for iOS 10 the landscape view that you are used to looks a bit different in the updated version of iBooks. With updates and upgrades will come small changes in the way your apps display it's content. If you are still able to read the book via landscape view, this let's us know that the app is functioning as expected. You can try adjusting the appearance in the iBooks app to have it look exactly the way you want while reading in the landscape mode.

Change the appearance of your books

You can adjust certain features of some ePub books or some books created with iBooks Author, including:
Font size. Choose from the included fonts. At this time, you can't install and use custom fonts.
Text and background color. In iBooks 4.0 or later, you can use three themes: White, Sepia, and Night. (Select the Night option to read books in the dark.) Turn on Auto-Night Theme to automatically switch to the Night theme in low light.
Scrolling. In iBooks 3.2 or later, you can use the Scrolling View to read your books in a continuous vertical scroll rather than turning pages. This feature is available in any theme.
Share thoughts with friends. In iBooks for iOS 3.0 or later and in iBooks for Mac, you can share highlights and selections on Facebook, Twitter, Messages, or Mail (United States only).
You can't change the appearance of PDFs or audiobooks.
Not all of these features work with ePubs created with iBooks Author or certain other enhanced ePub files.

Hi Chrissy. I just noticed this also. It looks like they changed the default layout for landscape to be single column, the same as for portrait. The reply from the specialist says that if it still works, it's working the way it's supposed to. I guess we need to send in some feedback, https://www.apple.com/feedback/

Great. Did you actually find how to get the 2-column view back?

waldhaus1 found the solution in the link below. He told Diana. Diana told me. Decrease the size of the font. I love how knowledge spreads on the Forum.

    Two page Landscape view

Tap the double A. Tap the tiny A.

    This.

    Becomes this.

    here's another stoopid question, BobFather...

when you reduce the FontSize, you may not LIKE that size, but you DO like the "book look" of both pages

Can you then ZOOM the display and then 'slide' the two pages within (the 'edges' may be off the screen)

    understand my question?

    I'll dummy it up...

    Author-Video.jpg

ZOOMed (sorta) - y'all don't have "scrollbars", but I can 'slide' it around with two fingers on my trackpad

It's do-able but by the time you reduce the size of the font then enlarge it you're back to where you started with only one page showing. I like my font large.

I get that - that is the POINT - you have two pages you are sliding around inside a picture frame with your fingers instead of one page sliding up and down

How did you have what you wanted before? (and what exactly IS that?)

Two pages , large font, no sliding. Below is settings. I can enlarge the font and still have two columns, iBooks was like this.

Just purchased my latest Ibook supposedly 'Created for Ibooks' but find the 'Font' size app only gives me Brightness and Scrolling view controls. If I try to read in 'Portrait mode' I get a small half screen view of the page......why?

Doesn't everyone read a book in portrait mode....just like a real book?

Hi. It seems like some iBooks have their settings locked in and cannot be changed. The preference for portrait vs landscape view may depend on device screen size.
